Sokjes voor Molleke - Booties for Molleke

When colleague Kim announced that she is pregnant, I immediatly promissed  her to knit socks for the baby. I didn't want to be too hasty, so I planned to get them ready in her 12th week of pregnancy. The search for the cutest pattern could start. I  wanted something for a newborn, a really classic baby bootie, but not too classic. Ravelry bombarded me with ideas, but those of Epipa were my immediate favorite. They are cute and sweet, but also a bit sturdy.

Meanwhile we saw the picture of an early scan from the baby, it looked a bit like a little mole. From then on its affectionate name is 'Molleke' (little mole).

Whilst talking about the baby I found out more of the taste in clothes of Kim for babies. She doesn't like too bright colours, but rather classic neutral colours. For a girl it can be a bit brighter. That is handy to know, and since we don't know yet if te baby will be girl or a boy I kept the color modest. From out of the sock wool box I conjured a leftover of Seta/Casmhere from Lana Grossa in the colour jeans.

If I do say so myself, I find the socks really good. The pattern is nicely put together: the leg is knitted in the round, then you knit the instep on two needles, whilst the heel stitches are waiting. After that you pick up stitches from the edge of the instep and knit those again in the round thogether with the toe and heel stitches, to knit the height of the bootie.

Next you knit the sole from toe to heel, meanwhile knit the latest stitch of each row together with a sidestitch. At last darn the sole stitches with the heel stitches and....ready!
